નદીવિયોગ Parting from the River (Nadiviyog)

નદી લેખકના બાળપણની સખી હતી; એ યાદ આવતાં મન ભૂતકાળમાં ડૂબી જાય છે.

For the writer the village river is like the history of an old elder - seeing it, the mind slips into the past. The days of childhood spent on its bank, bathing, swimming and playing in it, are all sweet memories still fresh today.

નદી ગામની ઓળખ અને જીવનનો આધાર હતી.

The river was the identity of the village and the support of life. With the sound of its flowing water the life of the village throbbed. It seemed beautiful and innocent like a new bride; its dignity and charm kept the village alive. As long as the river flowed, there was greenery and joy.

નદી સુકાઈને લુપ્ત થઈ ગઈ; લેખકને સ્વજન ગુમાવ્યા જેવો વિયોગ થાય છે.

With time the river began to dry up, only sand remained, and at last it vanished. Where water once gurgled, there is now silence. The writer feels as if he has lost a dear one. This parting from the river makes his heart pine, feeling the ache of separation.

નદીને જિવાડનારી હતી, માણસે તેને સાચવી નહીં - એ કૃતઘ્નતા છે.

The writer feels that man took much from the river but did not protect it in return - this is human ingratitude. The very river that sustained generations has been made sandy and waterless by man. This thought makes the essay sorrowful and reflective.

નદીની સ્મૃતિ હૃદયમાં જીવંત રહે છે; કુદરતને સાચવવાનો સંદેશ.

Though the river has vanished, its memory stays alive (blossoming) in the writer's heart, and he offers that memory like a prayer-offering. The message is clear - nature's gifts of river, tree and water must be preserved; otherwise such a parting must be borne.
