દીકરી Daughter (Dikri)

દીકરી જાણે ઘરમાં ઊતરી આવેલી દેવીની ઝલક છે.

The poet likens a daughter to a glimpse of heaven, of a goddess. Her coming makes the home sacred and bright. To the poet, it is as if some divine grace has descended into the house.

દીકરી ચંદન-કુમકુમ જેવી કોમળ અને શુભ; ઘરની શોભા છે.

The poet calls a daughter as tender, cool and auspicious as a tilak of sandalwood and kumkum. Her presence spreads sweetness, grace and radiance through the home. A daughter is a symbol of the household's beauty and good fortune.

દીકરી ઘરની ચિંતા પણ છે - પણ એ ચિંતા સ્નેહમાંથી જન્મે છે.

A daughter is also the household's 'fadak' - its tender worry. Parents constantly care for her future, happiness and safety. Yet this worry is born of love - it is a mark of deep affection for the daughter.

દીકરી પિતાને સહારો અને ઘરને સમજ-હૂંફ આપે છે.

The poet says a daughter gives support to her father, and so her understanding spreads through the home. A daughter offers not only feeling but also wisdom and warmth. She is both the home's anchor and its joy.

દીકરી બોજ નહીં, ઘરનું સૌભાગ્ય અને શોભા છે.

Throughout the ghazal the word 'dikri' returns again and again (the radif), deepening the affection for the daughter. The poet's message: a daughter is not a burden but the household's greatest good fortune and grace.
