रोटियाँ Breads

यह कहानी उस समय की है जब दूसरा विश्वयुद्ध चल रहा था। वान्या और उसके साथी सैनिक कई दिनों से भूखे थे। खाना-पानी कुछ नहीं मिला था और सब थककर चूर हो गए थे। भूख के मारे सबकी हालत बुरी थी और सभी के मन में बस एक ही ख्याल था - रोटी।

The story is set during World War II, when a squad of soldiers has been marching for days without food through forests and fields. Young Vanya and his companions have been without rations for days. The pain of hunger has become unbearable and the soldiers are exhausted. In this terrible scarcity, bread has become their greatest desire.

थके-भूखे सैनिक एक बूढ़ी दादी के घर पहुँचे। दादी के घर में भी खाना बहुत कम था। लेकिन भूखे सैनिकों को देखकर उनका दिल भर आया। उन्होंने अपने थोड़े से आटे से रोटियाँ बनाकर सभी सैनिकों को खिलाया। उनकी दयालुता देखकर सभी सैनिक भाव-विभोर हो गए।

The soldiers' squad reaches an old woman's house. The woman herself is living in difficult circumstances with very little food at home. Yet when she sees the hungry soldiers, her heart melts. She takes out her meagre flour, bakes bread with her own hands, and feeds everyone. Her compassion and spirit of sacrifice touched the soldiers' hearts deeply.

बुढ़िया ने जो रोटियाँ बनाईं वे सब सैनिकों में बाँटी गईं। रोटी पाकर वान्या को माँ और घर की याद आ गई। उसकी आँखें भर आईं। उन सादी रोटियों में जो मिठास थी वह किसी महंगे खाने में नहीं होती। उस दिन वान्या को समझ आया कि रोटी सिर्फ खाना नहीं, माँ का प्यार और घर की गर्मी है।

The breads made by the old woman are distributed. Each soldier receives his piece - plain, without any garnish, but for those hungry young men they were more precious than gold. When Vanya holds his bread, a strange feeling rises in him - he remembers the bread made by his mother's hands, he can smell home, and his eyes fill with tears. Bread was no longer just a piece of grain; it had become his mother's love, the warmth of home, and the foundation of life.

रोटी खाते-खाते वान्या सोचने लगा। घर पर वह कभी-कभी माँ के हाथ की रोटी बचा छोड़ देता था। उसे अहसास हुआ कि यह कितनी बड़ी गलती थी। भूखे रहने पर ही पता चलता है कि खाना कितना कीमती है। उसने मन में ठान लिया कि अब कभी खाने को बर्बाद नहीं करेगा।

After eating the bread, a storm of thoughts rises in Vanya's mind. He thinks of how many times at home he had eaten bread without appreciation, sometimes even leaving his mother's home-cooked food unfinished. The hunger of wartime has taught him the lesson that books cannot - ordinary things are extraordinary blessings. One should always be grateful for what one receives.

जब सैनिक दादी के घर से चले तो सबकी आँखों में आँसू थे। दादी ने रोटी के साथ अपना प्यार और ममता भी दी थी। वान्या ने मन में ठान लिया कि घर लौटने पर वह खाने की कद्र करेगा और कभी बर्बाद नहीं करेगा। इस पाठ ने उसे जीवन की सबसे बड़ी सीख दी।

When the squad takes leave of the old woman, every soldier's eyes shine with gratitude. What she gave was not merely bread - she gave her affection, her love, and a message of humanity. Vanya resolves in his heart that when he returns home after the war, he will never waste food and will always value what he receives. This resolve became an invaluable lesson of his life.
