लाख की चूड़ियाँ Lac Bangles

लेखक जब छोटे थे तो अपने मामा के गाँव जाते थे। वहाँ बदलू नाम का एक कारीगर रहता था जो लाख से सुंदर चूड़ियाँ बनाता था। लेखक को उसकी चूड़ियाँ बनाने की कला बहुत पसंद थी और वे अक्सर उसे काम करते देखने जाते थे।

The narrator recalls his childhood visits to his maternal uncle's village, where a craftsman named Badlu made beautiful lac bangles. Badlu was very skilled at his craft, and the women of the village would get bangles made from him. The young narrator loved watching him work and visited him often.

बदलू लाख को आग पर गर्म करके गोल चूड़ियाँ बनाता था। वह उनमें रंगीन काँच लगाता था जिससे चूड़ियाँ बहुत सुंदर दिखती थीं। बदलू को अपनी कला पर बहुत गर्व था। वह हर चूड़ी को बड़ी मेहनत और लगन से बनाता था।

Badlu made bangles by heating lac and embedding colourful glass pieces in them. His bangles were strong and beautiful. He took great pride in his craft and prepared each bangle with dedication. He worked not just for money but out of devotion to his art.

जब लेखक बड़े होकर गाँव गए तो उन्हें बड़ा बदलाव दिखा। बाजार में मशीनों से बनी सस्ती चूड़ियाँ आ गई थीं। अब गाँव की औरतें वही चूड़ियाँ खरीदती थीं क्योंकि वे सस्ती थीं। बदलू के पास अब कोई काम नहीं था।

When the narrator returned to the village as an adult, he found that machine-made glass bangles had flooded the market. These bangles were cheap and shiny, so village women had started buying them instead. Badlu's work had dried up almost completely and his financial condition had worsened greatly.

लेखक जब बदलू से मिले तो वह बूढ़ा और कमजोर हो गया था। उसके घर में सब कुछ बेकार पड़ा था। बदलू ने बताया कि लोग अब उसकी चूड़ियाँ नहीं खरीदते। वह बहुत दुखी था लेकिन उसने अपनी कला नहीं छोड़ी थी।

When the narrator met Badlu again, he found him old and frail. His home and tools lay idle. Badlu explained that nobody bought his bangles anymore. He was deeply saddened but had refused to compromise on his traditional craft or abandon it.

बदलू की याद लेखक के मन में हमेशा के लिए बस जाती है। यह कहानी हमें सोचने पर मजबूर करती है कि हम विकास के नाम पर अपनी पुरानी कला और कारीगरों को भूल रहे हैं। यह हमारे लिए एक जरूरी सवाल है कि क्या सिर्फ सस्ती चीजें खरीदना ही समझदारी है।

The memory of Badlu lingers in the narrator's heart as a lasting ache. He reflects on how indifferent society has become towards its traditional craftsmen. The story's ending forces the reader to question what is truly being lost in the name of development and modernity.
