Summary
Me despierto a las seis de la manana. Me ducho y me visto. Desayuno con mi familia: leche, cereales y fruta. Mi padre lee el periodico. Es un momento tranquilo.
My name is Priya and I will tell you about my day. I wake up at six in the morning. I turn off the alarm and stretch in bed before getting up. I go to the bathroom, wash my face with cold water and shower for ten minutes. Hot water helps me start the day with energy. I get dressed quickly: I put on my school uniform, comb my hair and go down to the kitchen. My mother has already prepared breakfast. We have breakfast together: I have hot milk with cereal and fresh fruit. My father reads the newspaper. It is a quiet moment before the day begins.
Salgo de casa a las siete y media con mi mochila. Tomo el autobus con mis amigos. El colegio esta lejos. Llegamos a las ocho menos diez. Hoy tenemos espanol, matematicas y ciencias.
At half past seven I leave the house with my backpack on my shoulder. My mother gives me a kiss and says: Priya, have a good day. I walk five minutes to the bus stop. The bus arrives punctually at seven forty. During the journey I talk with my classmates and we review the history lesson. The school is twenty minutes away. We arrive at ten to eight and go straight into the building. My favourite class today is Spanish because the teacher explains very well. We also have maths and science. Physical education is after break, at a quarter to twelve.
Las clases terminan a las dos y media. Hago los deberes en casa: matematicas y espanol. Tardo dos horas. Luego juego al futbol en el parque con mis amigos del barrio.
Classes end at half past two. I go back home by bus with my classmates. When I arrive, I greet my mother and change my clothes. I sit at the dining table and do my homework. First I review maths because it is the most difficult. Then I write an essay for Spanish class about my holidays. It takes me two hours to finish. At half past five I go down to the park near my building. There I play football with my neighbourhood friends for an hour. We laugh a lot and I forget the stress of school. Physical exercise clears my mind after studying so much.
Cenamos juntos a las ocho y media. Comemos sopa y arroz con lentejas. Hablamos del dia. Veo la television un poco. Me lavo los dientes. Me acuesto a las diez.
At half past eight the whole family gathers in the dining room for dinner together. Dinner is the most important moment of the day because we talk about everything that happened. Tonight my mother has prepared vegetable soup and rice with lentils. My father tells stories from work and I tell him about the football match I won with my friends. After dinner I help clear the table and wash the dishes with my sister. Then I watch television for a bit: a nature programme or the news. At half past nine I turn off the television. I brush my teeth, put on my pyjamas and read for a while in bed. I go to bed at ten o'clock sharp and fall asleep straight away because I am very tired.
El sabado me levanto tarde, a las nueve o diez. Voy al mercado con mama. Compramos frutas, verduras y especias. El domingo es tranquilo: leo o visito a mis abuelos. El fin de semana es muy diferente.
On weekends my life is completely different. On Saturday the alarm clock does not ring because there is no school. I get up late, at nine or even at ten. I feel very rested and in a good mood. After breakfast, my mother asks me to come with her to the neighbourhood market. I love going to the market because there are many wonderful colours, smells and sounds. We buy fresh fruit, vegetables, spices and sometimes flowers for the house. The mango seller has known us for years and always gives my mother one as a gift. Sundays are more peaceful: I read, listen to Indian music or visit my grandparents who live nearby. The weekend recharges my batteries for the week ahead.
