En esta lección aprendemos los nombres de los lugares de la ciudad y cómo decir dónde están. También aprendemos cómo dar indicaciones a alguien.

In this lesson we learn vocabulary for the city and important places. We also learn how to give and ask for directions in Spanish. Verbs and expressions such as HAY, ESTAR, a la derecha (to the right), a la izquierda (to the left), and todo recto (straight ahead) are essential for communicating in a Spanish-speaking city.

Lugares: la calle (street), el parque (park), la tienda (shop), el hospital (hospital), el banco (bank), el supermercado (supermarket), la biblioteca (library), la plaza (square). Direcciones: a la derecha (right), a la izquierda (left), todo recto (straight), cerca (near), lejos (far).

Para decir dónde está algo: usamos ESTAR. 'El parque está cerca'. Para decir que existe algo: usamos HAY. 'Hay un hospital aquí'. Para dar instrucciones: 'Gira a la derecha', 'Sigue todo recto'.

Prepositions of place: EN (in/at), A (to), CERCA DE (near), LEJOS DE (far from), DELANTE DE (in front of), DETRÁS DE (behind), AL LADO DE (next to), ENTRE (between), ENFRENTE DE (opposite). HAY + indefinite article is used to talk about existence. ESTAR is used for the location of a specific thing. Imperatives for giving directions: Gira a la derecha / Sigue todo recto / Toma la primera calle a la izquierda.

En los países de habla española, la plaza es muy importante. Es el centro de la ciudad donde la gente se encuentra. En Madrid está la famosa Plaza Mayor. En México está el Zócalo. La gente va a la plaza para hablar, comer y celebrar.

Plazas are the heart of Spanish-speaking cities. In Spain, the Plaza Mayor in Madrid is a historic place where people gather to socialise, eat, and celebrate festivities. In Mexico, the Plaza del Zócalo in Mexico City is one of the largest plazas in the world. Plazas are public spaces where markets, concerts, and festivals are held. They are a symbol of community life in Hispanic countries.
