Summary

Priya and her friend Meera are sitting in the school garden talking about friendship. Priya says: For me, a good friend is an honest person who tells you the truth even when it is sometimes hard to hear. Meera adds: It is also important that they are generous and that they are there when you need them, not only when everything is going well. Priya smiles and replies: You are right. My best friend is very kind and very loyal, she never speaks badly of me to other people. Also, she is very funny and always makes me laugh when I am sad. Meera says: I think the most important quality is trust, a true friend keeps your secrets.

Carlos pregunta si es mejor tener muchos amigos o pocos amigos cercanos. Priya prefiere pocos amigos cercanos. Carlos prefiere un grupo grande. Meera esta en el medio.

Carlos joins the conversation and asks: Do you prefer having many friends or just one or two very close friends? Priya thinks for a moment and replies: I prefer having few friends but very close ones. With my best friend I can talk about anything without fear of being judged. Quality matters more than quantity. Carlos says: I am different, I like having a big group of friends because each one is different and I learn new things from each person. Meera adds: I am in the middle, I have a group of friends from school but I also have a best friend with whom I share my deepest thoughts. Priya concludes: In the end, there is no correct answer, each person is different.

Meera tells a recent story: Last week I had an argument with my friend Ananya. She forgot my birthday and I felt very sad and a little angry. I did not say anything at first, but inside I was hurt. Priya asks: And what happened afterwards? Meera replies: In the end I decided to talk to her calmly instead of keeping the anger inside. I explained that it had hurt me that she forgot such an important date for me. Ananya apologised sincerely and explained that she had had a very difficult month at home and had forgotten everything. Now I understand her situation better and our friendship is stronger than before. Priya says: It is true, talking about problems honestly is always better than staying quiet and angry.

Priya compares her two best friends, Meera and Ananya. She says: Meera is as funny as Ananya, but Meera is chattier than Ananya, who is calmer and more reserved. Ananya is more patient than Meera, she never gets angry quickly. Both are equally loyal, I can always trust them. Carlos adds: I have a friend called Diego, he is less serious than me but more athletic, he is always playing football. We are as good friends as brothers because we have known each other since we were little. Priya says: I think the lovely thing about friendship is that each friend brings something different. We do not need all our friends to be the same, on the contrary, the differences make friendship more interesting.

Carlos tells how last year he had a very difficult time when his parents moved to another city and he had to change schools. He says: At first I did not know anyone and I felt very alone. But my classmate Diego, who was already my neighbour, introduced me to his group of friends and helped me settle in. Without his support, it would have been much harder. Priya says: That shows that good friends help you in difficult moments, not only when everything is easy and fun. Meera adds: My best friend helped me a lot when I failed an important exam, she encouraged me to study more and did not laugh at me or judge me. The three of them agree that true friendship shows itself best in difficult moments rather than easy ones.

Prometen seguir siendo amigos siempre.

At the end of the conversation, Priya, Meera and Carlos reflect on what they have learned. Priya says: I think a good friend is like an honest mirror, they show you the truth but always with kindness. Meera adds: And also someone who celebrates your successes without envy and supports you in your failures without judging you. Carlos concludes: In the end, friendship is not perfect, sometimes there are arguments and misunderstandings, but what matters is speaking honestly and forgiving. Priya smiles and says: I hope we stay friends for many years, even when we are at different universities or in different countries. The three of them promise to stay in touch and visit each other whenever they can, because they know that true friendships last a lifetime.
