En esta lección aprendemos a decir lo que nos gusta y lo que no nos gusta. Usamos palabras como 'me gusta' y 'prefiero'.

In this lesson we learn to express what we like, what we prefer, and what we do not like. We use verbs like GUSTAR, ENCANTAR, ODIAR, PREFERIR, and QUERER to talk about our preferences regarding sports, music, reading, and cinema. This lesson is very important for everyday conversations in Spanish.

Con 'me gusta', si hay una cosa usamos 'gusta', si hay muchas cosas usamos 'gustan'. QUERER cambia: yo quiero, tú quieres. PREFERIR cambia igual: yo prefiero, tú prefieres. Para decir que no te gusta: 'No me gusta nada'.

GUSTAR: This verb works in a special way. The subject is the thing that is liked, not the person. An indirect pronoun is placed before the verb. With a singular noun: 'me gusta el fútbol'. With a plural noun: 'me gustan los deportes'. With an infinitive: 'me gusta bailar'. QUERER and PREFERIR are stem-changing verbs (e→ie). Negation: 'No me gusta nada el ruido', 'Nunca como carne'.

En España a la gente le gusta mucho el fútbol, la música y estar con amigos. Los fines de semana muchas personas salen a comer tapas.

In Spain and in Spanish-speaking countries, the most popular pastimes are football, flamenco, hiking, and cinema. Spaniards very much enjoy tapas with friends on weekends. Reading is also highly valued; many cities have important book fairs, such as the Madrid Book Fair. Young people prefer pop music, reggaeton, and video games.

Para el examen: Aprende a usar 'me gusta' con una cosa y 'me gustan' con muchas cosas. Aprende 'quiero, quieres, quiere' y 'prefiero, prefieres, prefiere'. Practica decir lo que te gusta y lo que no te gusta.
