Summary
Dear Carlos, how are you? I hope your ankle is getting better. I arrived home three days ago and I still miss Madrid. The churros at the San Miguel market were incredible! And the noise of the Gran Vía at night, with the buses and the people... everything here seems too quiet. I am watching a Spanish series on Netflix called La Casa de Papel -- do you know it? It helps me practise Spanish. Write to me soon. A big hug, Priya.
Dear Director, I am writing to you to submit a formal complaint about my stay at Hotel Velázquez from the 5th to the 8th of March. My name is Priya Sharma and my booking number is HV-2024-3381, room 204. During my stay I found the following problems: the room was not clean on my arrival, the Wi-Fi connection did not work at any point, and breakfast was served cold. I request a partial refund for the inconveniences caused. I attach photos as proof. Yours sincerely, Priya Sharma.
Dear Editorial Team of Jóvenes del Mundo, My name is Priya Sharma and I am an Indian student in tenth grade. I study Spanish as a foreign language under the CBSE syllabus (code 096). Last month I took part in a cultural fair at my school where I presented Spanish culture to my classmates. It was a wonderful experience. I believe many Indian students learn Spanish with great enthusiasm. Therefore, I suggest you publish an article about CBSE students studying Spanish in India. I would be happy to collaborate. At your disposal, Priya Sharma.
Dear Priya, We are pleased to inform you that we have read your letter with great interest. Your story is truly inspiring: an Indian student who learns Spanish and shares Hispanic culture with her school community is exactly the type of story our readers want to know about. We ask you to send us a two-hundred-word article along with a photograph of the cultural fair. We will publish your story in our summer edition. We await your response. Cordially, The Editor in Chief, Jóvenes del Mundo. Priya read the letter to Carlos on the video call and both celebrated the news with great joy.
Formal: usted, Estimado/a, Atentamente. Informal: tú, Querido/a, Un abrazo.
The teacher explained the two formats. For formal letters: use usted, begin with Estimado/a or A quien corresponda, end with Atentamente or En espera de su respuesta. For emails or informal letters: use tú, begin with Hola or Querido/a, end with Un abrazo, Hasta pronto or Con cariño. Always remember to include the date, the subject and well-organised paragraphs. The class practised both formats.
