Wahre Freundschaft True Friendship

Mia hat nur eine beste Freundin, Klara. Sie kennen sich seit der Grundschule und verstehen sich sehr gut.

Mia has only one best friend, Klara, and the two have known each other since primary school. Some classmates find this odd because they themselves have many friends. When Ben asks why she has only one best friend, Mia explains that Klara knows her better than anyone and she doesn't have to explain herself. Ben begins to think about his own friendships, realising he has many acquaintances but no one he can talk to about everything.

Ben hat viele Freunde fuer verschiedene Aktivitaeten. Mia fragt, wer ihm bei Problemen hilft.

Ben has a very different attitude to friendship. He plays football in a club, is in a music group, and often goes to the cinema with different groups of people, doing something different with each friend. Mia finds this interesting but asks who helps him when he really has a problem. Ben thinks for a long time and realises he has never answered that question before.

One day Mia and Klara have a big argument because Klara posted a photo of Mia without asking, one Mia thinks looks bad. Mia is angry and doesn't speak to Klara for three days, feeling hurt and disappointed. Klara sends several messages but Mia doesn't reply immediately. On the third day Klara calls and apologises sincerely, saying she should have asked first. Mia hears the sadness in Klara's voice and begins to understand that a mistake doesn't have to mean the end of a friendship.

The next day Mia and Klara meet in the park after school and talk for a long time. Mia explains she was too angry to reply straight away but doesn't want to lose the friendship over a photo. Klara deletes the photo immediately and promises to always ask first next time. They hug, and Mia feels their friendship is now even stronger than before, since a true friend apologises and learns from mistakes.

A few weeks later the class writes an essay on what makes a good friend. Mia writes that a good friend is honest, patient and loyal, while Ben writes that a good friend is more fun than an ordinary acquaintance and always has time when needed. Ben reflects that maybe it doesn't matter whether you have many friends or just one best friend, what matters is that the friendship is genuine. Mia agrees, understanding that true friendship depends on quality, not quantity.
