In this lesson we learn how to protect our environment. The Earth is getting warmer because we produce too much CO₂. We talk about renewable energies like solar energy and how every person can help in daily life, for example through recycling or avoiding plastic.

Wichtige Wörter: Nachhaltigkeit, Klima, Energie, Recycling. Diese Wörter brauchen wir, um über die Umwelt zu reden.

The most important words in this lesson are: sustainability, renewable energy, global warming, climate change, the greenhouse effect, to avoid, to reduce, solar energy and electric bus. These words help us to talk about environmental problems and solutions.

'Um...zu' zeigt einen Grund oder Zweck. Relativsätze mit Präpositionen sind Sätze wie: 'Das Thema, über das wir sprechen...'

In this lesson we practise two important structures. First: the 'um...zu' construction which expresses a purpose. For example: 'We save energy in order to protect the environment.' Second: relative clauses with prepositions, such as 'The topic that we are talking about is very important.' Note: in relative clauses with a preposition, the preposition comes before the relative pronoun.

Germany is a European leader on the topic of sustainability. The 'Energiewende' is a German project that aims to promote renewable energies such as wind and solar power. Many Germans sort their waste into different bins: yellow bin for plastic, brown bin for organic waste, blue bin for paper. German cities are seeing more and more electric buses and cycle paths.

Für die Prüfung: Schreibe ganze Sätze. Benutze Wörter wie 'weil' und 'deshalb'. Für Aufsätze: Einleitung, Hauptteil, Schluss.

For the CBSE exam you should know the following points: write short answers in complete sentences. Use connectors such as 'because', 'therefore', 'so that' and 'although'. For essays: write an introduction, a main body and a conclusion. Typical exam questions: 'What can you do to protect the environment?' Use the 'um...zu' structure and relative clauses in your answers.
