Miriam will Informatik studieren. Jonas will draussen arbeiten. Aylin will Menschen helfen. Felix geht ins Ausland und lernt Sprachen.

Four teenagers talk about their future. Miriam: After my Abitur I want to study computer science because I want to develop apps later. Jonas: An office is not for me. I am looking for a job where I can work outside in the fresh air. Aylin: Salary is not so important to me. I want to help other people, maybe as a nurse. Felix: First I am doing a voluntary social year abroad to improve my language skills.

Sechs Personen bewerten einen Streamingdienst: Auswahl gut, Preis hoch, Technik mal gut, mal schlecht.

Review 1: The choice of series is huge and new films are added every week. Review 2: Since the last price rise the subscription is simply too expensive for me. Review 3: The picture quality is excellent, but the app does not work on my old tablet. Review 4: Customer service solved my problem within an hour. Review 5: I find it annoying that you can only watch many films for an extra charge. Review 6: The subtitles are very helpful; however, they are not available for every language.

Eine Schule in Dortmund sammelt morgens die Handys ein. Erst gab es Proteste. Jetzt reden die Schueler mehr und konzentrieren sich besser.

Since January the pupils of a comprehensive school in Dortmund have had to hand in their phones in the morning. The head teacher explains that many teenagers were only looking at their screens during breaks. At first almost all pupils complained about the new rule. After six months the picture looks different. In the playground there is more talking and playing again, and teachers report that pupils concentrate better in lessons. Nevertheless some teenagers wish they were allowed to use their phone at least during the lunch break.

Freiwillige in Graz reparieren einmal im Monat kaputte Dinge. Das ist gratis. Die Idee kommt aus den Niederlanden. Ein zweites Cafe ist geplant.

On the first Saturday of every month volunteers meet at the Repair Cafe in Graz. They repair broken toasters, lamps and bicycles so that less rubbish is produced. Visiting is free, but many guests give a small donation. The idea originally comes from the Netherlands and is popular all over Europe today. The organiser Mrs Berger says the workshop has also become a meeting place for the neighbourhood. Next year a second cafe is due to open in the south of the city.

Frueher: Zeitungen austragen. Jetzt: Supermarktkasse und Kundenkontakt. Spaeter: Ausbildung bei einer Bank.

At fourteen I delivered newspapers to top up my pocket money. Today I work on Saturdays at the till of a supermarket. The job is sometimes stressful, but through it I am learning to deal with customers. After leaving school I would like to start an apprenticeship at a bank.

Emma aus Bristol ist Au-pair in Wien. Erst hatte sie Heimweh. Jetzt lernt sie Deutsch und reist am Wochenende. Spaeter will sie in Deutschland studieren.

Nineteen-year-old Emma from Bristol has been working as an au pair for a family in Vienna since September. She takes the two children to nursery in the morning and picks them up again in the afternoon. At first she was homesick and found the Austrian dialect difficult. Meanwhile she attends a German course twice a week and has found friends there from all over the world. At weekends she often takes the train to the mountains or visits museums. After her year in Austria Emma wants to study German at a university in Germany because she has come to like the language so much.

Ein Laden in Basel verkauft ohne Plastik. Kunden bringen Glaeser mit. Es ist etwas teurer, aber das Geschaeft waechst. Im Herbst gibt es Koch-Workshops.

Two years ago Katrin Moser opened a shop in Basel in which there is no plastic packaging. Customers bring their own jars and tins and fill up rice, pasta or soap themselves. At the beginning it was mainly students who came; today many families shop there too. Mrs Moser admits that her products are somewhat more expensive than in the supermarket. Nevertheless her business is growing because more and more people want to avoid waste. In autumn she is planning workshops in which customers learn how to cook tasty dishes from leftovers.

Frueher war mir die Umwelt egal. Ein Schulprojekt hat das geaendert. Jetzt fahre ich Rad und kaufe weniger. Spaeter will ich Umweltwissenschaften studieren.

When I was younger I was hardly interested in the environment. That changed last year when our class did a project on plastic waste. Since then I have been cycling to school and buying fewer clothes. My parents sometimes find my ideas tiring, but they too are now trying to save energy. In future I would like to study environmental science because I believe that everyone can change something.
