غزل - فراق گورکھپوری Ghazal - Firaq Gorakhpuri

भावार्थ: न सिर में दीवानगी का सौदा है, न दिल में कोई तमन्ना बाक़ी है - मगर इस मुहब्बत को पूरी तरह छोड़ देने का भरोसा भी नहीं। एक अरसे से तेरी याद भी नहीं आई, फिर भी दीवाना इश्क़ यूँ ही भुलाए नहीं जाता। उस नाज़-भरी महफ़िल से दिल नम हो गया है, वहाँ से उठा भी नहीं जाता। आज उन आँखों में ग़फ़लत (बेख़बरी) भी पहले से ज़्यादा है, आज ही यह बीमार दिल भी ठीक-सा महसूस नहीं करता। फ़िराक़ कहते हैं - हम इसे मुँह से बुरा तो नहीं कहते, तू दोस्त तो है, मगर पूरी तरह अच्छा इंसान भी नहीं।

Meaning: there is neither madness in the head nor any wish left in the heart - yet there is no full confidence in having truly abandoned this love. It has been a long while since your memory even crossed my mind, yet mad love is not so easily forgotten. The heart has grown moist from that graceful gathering, unable even to rise and leave. Today those eyes carry even more heedlessness than before; today too this ailing heart does not feel quite right. Firaq says: I will not call you bad to your face - you are a friend, but not entirely a good person either.
