غزل - ناصر کاظمی Ghazal - Nasir Kazmi

भावार्थ: तेरे ख़याल से तन्हाई में एक लौ-सी जग उठी है - क्या यह जुदाई की रात है या तेरी जल्वा-आराई (सामने आने)? ऐ मंज़िलों के शैदाई, तू किस ख़याल में है - उन्हें भी देख जिन्हें रास्ते में नींद आ गई (यानी थक कर रुक गए)। ज़िंदगी की राह में मरते वक़्त कुछ तो देख ही लिया - यह अलग बात है कि तेरी आरज़ू पूरी न हो सकी। इश्क़ में यह भी एक सानिहा (हादसा) बार-बार होता है कि उसने हाल पूछा और हमारा दिल भर आया। जब आँख खुली तो कुछ और ही मंज़र देखा - न वे लोग थे, न वह गली, न शहर की रौनक़। नासिर कहते हैं - फिर उसकी याद में दिल बेक़रार है, जिससे बिछड़ते ही पूरे शहर में रुस्वाई हुई।

Meaning: from thoughts of you a flame of solitude has risen - is this the night of separation, or your radiant appearance? O one enamoured of destinations, in what thought are you lost - look also upon those who fell asleep along the way. On life's road, at least something was glimpsed at the moment of dying - it is another matter that your longing was never fulfilled. This too is a recurring mishap in love, that she asked after me and my heart welled up. When my eyes opened I saw quite another sight - neither those people, nor that lane, nor the city's former splendour. Nasir says his heart remains restless in her memory still - parting from whom brought disgrace upon the whole city.
