غزل - حکیم مومن خاں مومن Ghazal - Hakeem Momin Khan Momin

भावार्थ: कहीं ग़ैरों पर मेरा राज़ खुल न जाए, ऐ चुग़लख़ोर - मेरी तरफ़ (मेरे चेहरे के भावों) पर भी नज़र रख। मेरे इंतिज़ार से चेहरे का रंग उड़ता जा रहा है - इस टूटे हुए परिंदे की उड़ान देख। दोस्त का दुश्मन (यानी रक़ीब) मेरे ग़मगीन दिल पर बोझ नहीं है, ऐ हमराज़, बस उसकी आवाज़ की नज़ाकत देख। रक़ीब का बुरा हाल देखो - उसकी क़िस्मत ख़राब हो गई, कभी साज़गार थी अब नासाज़ है। मैं उसकी जादू भरी आँख की अदा का मारा हुआ हूँ - समझ-बूझकर उसके करिश्मे को देख। मोमिन कहते हैं - हुस्न के नाज़ के आगे सितम सहना भी कम नहीं; यही ग़म और मलाल की शुरुआत है।

Meaning: let my secret not be exposed to rivals, O tale-bearer - watch even my own expression. My face's colour is fading in waiting - watch this broken bird's flight. The beloved's rival is no burden on my grieving heart, my confidant - just note the delicacy of his voice. See the rival's wretched state - his fortune, once favourable, has now turned adverse. I am slain by the sorcery of her glance - watch her wonder-working eye with understanding. Momin says: bearing cruelty is no small thing before the coquetry of beauty - that is where grief and sorrow begin.
