غزل - علی سکندر جگر مرادآبادی Ghazal - Ali Sikandar 'Jigar' Muradabadi

भावार्थ: कभी शाख़-पत्तों पर, कभी कली-फूल-काँटे पर - चमन में मैं जहाँ भी रहूँ, मेरा हक़ बस बहार के मौसम पर है। मुझे ग़फ़लत में धमकियाँ न दो, चाहे लाख बार बिजलियाँ गिरें - मेरी सल्तनत यही आशियाना है, मेरी मिल्कियत यही चार पर (पंख) हैं। अजब है ज़माने का इंक़िलाब, मेरा फ़साना छोटा-सा है - जो बोझ अब कंधे पर है, वही सर कभी माशूक़ की गोद में था। अभी देखना हो तो देख ले, अपनी बहार पर ख़िज़ाँ (पतझड़) छा गई है। ऐ सबा (हवा)! मेरी तरफ़ से यह आख़िरी ग़म का पैग़ाम सुना दे। मैं दर्द का क़र्ज़दार हूँ ज़रूर, मगर मुझे और जिगर (हौसला) चाहिए ही क्या - माशूक़ का ग़म ही मेरा हमदर्द रहे, मैं उसी ग़म पर मोहित हूँ।

Meaning: whether on branch and leaf or among bud, flower and thorn - wherever I dwell in the garden, my only claim is upon the season of spring. Do not threaten me in my heedlessness, though lightning strike a thousand times - this very nest is my kingdom, these very wings my possession. Strange is the revolution of time, my tale so brief - the burden now on my shoulder was once the head resting in the beloved's lap. If you wish to see, look now - autumn has fallen upon my own spring. O breeze, carry this last message of grief from me. I am indeed indebted to pain, but what more courage do I need - let the beloved's grief remain my only solace; I am enthralled by that grief alone.
