غزل - معین احسن جذبی Ghazal - Moin Ehsan Jazbi

भावार्थ: मरने की दुआएँ क्यों माँगूँ, जब जीने की तमन्ना ही कोई करे? इस दुनिया की हो या उस दुनिया (आख़िरत) की, अब दुनिया की ख़्वाहिश कौन करे। जब कश्ती साबित-सालिम (साबुत) थी तब साहिल की तमन्ना किसे थी; अब इतनी टूटी कश्ती पर साहिल की उम्मीद कौन करे? जो आग तुमने लगाई, उसे तो आँसुओं ने बुझा दिया - मगर जो आग आँसुओं ने ही भड़का दी है, उसे कौन ठंडा करे। जज़्बी कहते हैं - दुनिया ने हमें छोड़ दिया, मगर हम यूँ दुनिया को न छोड़ें; हम तो दुनिया को समझ-बूझकर बैठे हैं, अब दुनिया-दुनिया कौन करे (यानी दुनियादारी की बात कौन करे)।

Meaning: why should I pray for death, when there is no wish left even to live? Whether this world or the next, who now desires the world at all? When the boat was sound and whole, who longed for the shore; now on such a shattered boat, who can hope for one? The fire you lit was put out by tears - but the fire the tears themselves kindled, who can cool that? Jazbi says the world abandoned us, but let us not abandon the world in turn; we have sat here having understood the world - who now speaks of worldly matters at all.
