غزل - علامہ اقبال Ghazal - Allama Iqbal

भावार्थ: फिर पहाड़ और घाटी लाला के चराग़ों से रोशन हो गए - मुझे फिर बुलबुल गाने पर उकसाने लगी। सहरा में फूल हैं या परियाँ क़तार दर क़तार, ऊदे-नीले-पीले लिबास पहने। अपने मन में डूबकर ज़िंदगी का सुराग़ पा - अगर तू मेरा नहीं बनता तो न बन, कम-अज़-कम अपना तो बन। मन की दौलत एक बार हाथ आ जाए तो फिर जाती नहीं; तन की दौलत तो साया है - धन आता है, जाता है। मैंने मन की दुनिया में न फ़िरंगी का राज पाया, न शेख़ और बरहमन को देखा। एक क़लंदर की बात ने मुझे शर्मिंदा कर दिया - कि जिस दिन तू ग़ैर के आगे झुका, न मन तेरा रहा न तन!

Meaning: once again the mountains and valleys are lit by tulip-like lamps - the nightingale again stirs me to song. Are these flowers in the wilderness, or fairies row upon row, in violet, blue and yellow robes? Immerse yourself in your own soul and find the clue to life - if you cannot be mine, at least be your own. The wealth of the soul, once gained, never departs; the wealth of the body is a mere shadow - riches come and riches go. In the world of the soul I found neither the empire of the English, nor did I see priest or Brahmin. A wandering mystic's words shamed me deeply - the day you bowed before another, neither your soul nor your body remained your own.
