غزل - فیض احمد فیض Ghazal - Faiz Ahmed Faiz

भावार्थ: फूलों में रंग भर दो, नई बहार की हवा चले - तुम भी आ जाओ कि गुलशन का कारोबार (ज़िंदगी की रौनक़) फिर से चल पड़े। दोस्तो, क़ैदख़ाना उदास है, ज़रा सबा (हवा) से कुछ कहो - ख़ुदा के लिए आज माशूक़ का ज़िक्र तो चले। दर्द का रिश्ता बड़ा गहरा है, चाहे यह दिल ग़रीब ही सही - तुम्हारे नाम पर हमदर्द ज़रूर आएँगे। जो हम पर गुज़री सो गुज़री, मगर जुदाई की रात में हमारे आँसुओं ने तेरा भविष्य सँवार दिया। फ़ैज़ कहते हैं - मुझे रास्ते में कोई ठिकाना जँचा ही नहीं; जो भी माशूक़ की गली से निकला, वह सूली की तरफ़ ही चला।

Meaning: fill the flowers with colour, let the new-spring breeze blow - come along too, so the garden's business may resume. Friends, the cage is despondent, say something to the morning breeze - for God's sake let the beloved be spoken of today. The bond of pain runs deep, however humble this heart may be - sympathisers will surely come in your name. What befell us, befell us; but on the night of separation our tears mended your future. Faiz says no resting place along the way ever felt right to him - whoever left the beloved's lane went straight toward the gallows.
