غزل - نواب مرزا خاں داغ دہلوی Ghazal - Nawab Mirza Khan Dagh Dehlvi

भावार्थ: ख़ातिरदारी में या लिहाज़ से मैंने मान लिया - झूटी क़सम से भी आपका यक़ीन तो टूट ही गया। मैं अपने दिल को आरज़ू करते देखकर डरता हूँ - मेहमान (माशूक़) चला गया तो घर सुनसान क्यों न हो! मैंने बुतकदे (मंदिर जैसी जगह) में दिखाया है, ऐ शेख़, मत पूछ - ईमान की हक़ीक़त यह है कि ईमान भी जाता रहा। इश्क़ का राज़ खोलने में झिझका ज़रूर, मगर उसे बता ही दिया, जान चली गई। नामाबर (क़ासिद) से वह ख़ुश तो नहीं हुआ, मगर हज़ार शुक्र कि उसने मुझे नाम से तो पहचान लिया। होश-हवास और सब्र-ओ-ताक़त दाग़ की जा चुकी, अब हम भी जाने वाले हैं - सामान बँध चुका है।

Meaning: out of courtesy or regard, I accepted it - even a false oath broke my faith in you. I fear watching my own heart yearn - if the guest (the beloved) has left, why should the house not become desolate! I have shown it in the idol-house, O Shaikh, do not ask - the truth of faith is that faith itself has departed. I hesitated to reveal love's secret, but I told it anyway, at the cost of my life. Though he was not pleased with the messenger, a thousand thanks that he at least recognised me by name. Senses and composure, Dagh's very strength, have all gone; now I too am about to leave - the luggage is packed.
