بنجارہ نامہ Banjara Nama (The Nomad-Trader's Ledger)

लालच छोड़; मौत सबको ले जाती है; सारा ठाठ यहीं रहेगा।

First stanza (verbatim, source: Rekhta). Meaning: give up greed and desire, my friend; do not wander from land to land. The bandit Death is looting day and night, beating his drum. Bullock, buffalo, camel, grain, fire and smoke - whatever it is, all the pomp will be left lying here when the banjara (man) loads up and leaves.

तू कितना भी अमीर हो, मौत तुझसे बड़ी व्यापारी है।

Even if you are a rich banjara and your load is heavy, O heedless one, a still greater trader (Death) stands over you. Sugar, spices, betel-nut - all will be left behind. (Verbatim opening lines quoted; source: Rekhta.)

मौत राह में गिरा देगी; तब धन, रिश्ते कुछ काम न आएँगे।

You load your bullocks and travel east and west chasing profit - but when Death's bandit strikes you down on the road, wealth, grandchildren, the whole family will be of no use. (Verbatim lines quoted; source: Rekhta.)

जो माल ढो रहा है वह तेरा नहीं; सिर्फ़ कफ़न साथ जाएगा।

आख़िर में अकेला क़ब्र में; कोई साथ नहीं - यही नज़्म का अंत।

When Death cracks the whip and drives off this bullock of the body, you will lie alone in the wilderness (the graveyard) and taste the dust of the grave.
