जटायोः शौर्यम् Jatayoh Shauryam - The Heroism of Jatayu

वह अत्यंत दुखी सीता उस समय करुण वाणी से विलाप करती हुई वनस्पति पर बैठे गृध्र (जटायु) को देख रही थी। उसकी आंखें बड़ी और सुंदर थीं।

The deeply sorrowful Sita, weeping with pitiful cries, saw the vulture (Jatayu) perched on a tree. She had wide, beautiful eyes.

सीता ने पुकारा: हे आर्य जटायु, देखो मुझे! यह पापी राक्षसराज मुझे अनाथ की तरह बलपूर्वक हरण कर रहा है।

Sita cried out: O noble Jatayu, look at me being forcibly carried away like an orphan by this sinful king of demons.

उस शब्द को सोते हुए जटायु ने सुना। उसने तुरंत रावण को देखा और फिर वैदेही (सीता) को भी पहचाना।

The sleeping Jatayu heard that cry. He quickly looked up, saw Ravana, and then recognized Vaidehi (Sita).

जटायु ने रावण को समझाया: दूसरे की पत्नी को स्पर्श करने की यह नीच बुद्धि छोड़ो। कोई भी धीर पुरुष ऐसा काम नहीं करता जिसे दूसरे निंदनीय मानें।

Jatayu counseled Ravana: Abandon this base intention of touching another's wife. No truly brave and wise person does what others would condemn as despicable.

जटायु ने कहा: मैं वृद्ध हूं, तू युवा है, धनुर्धर है, रथ पर है, कवच पहने है और बाण से लैस है। फिर भी वैदेही को लेकर तू कुशलपूर्वक नहीं जा सकेगा।

Jatayu declared: I am old, you are young, an archer, on a chariot, armored, and armed with arrows. Yet you will not be able to take Vaidehi away safely.

महाबलशाली श्रेष्ठ पक्षी जटायु ने अपने तीखे नखों वाले दोनों चरणों से रावण के शरीर पर अनेक घाव कर दिए।

The mighty, excellent bird Jatayu inflicted many wounds on Ravana's body with his two feet armed with sharp talons.

रावण का धनुष टूट गया, रथ नष्ट हो गया, घोड़े और सारथी मर गए। क्रोध से मूर्च्छित रावण ने तुरंत जटायु पर अपनी हथेली से प्रहार किया।

With his bow broken, chariot destroyed, horses and charioteer killed, Ravana, consumed with rage, quickly struck Jatayu with the flat of his hand.
