About the author
Raskhan, a Muslim poet of the Krishna-devotion tradition; original name Sayyad Ibrahim. Traditionally said to be born around 1548 near Delhi. Absorbed in devotion to Krishna, he took initiation from Goswami Vitthalnath and lived in Braj. His Braj-bhasha 'savaiye' are famous for boundless love of Krishna and the land of Braj.
Summary
कवि कहता है, अगले जन्म में आदमी बनूँ तो गोकुल के ग्वालों के बीच रहूँ; जानवर बनूँ तो नंद की गायों के साथ चरूँ; पत्थर बनूँ तो वही गोवर्धन पहाड़ बनूँ जिसे कृष्ण ने अपनी उँगली पर उठाया था; और पंछी बनूँ तो यमुना किनारे के कदंब पेड़ की डाल पर बसेरा करूँ। चाहे जिस रूप में रहूँ, बस ब्रज न छूटे।
The poet says, if reborn as a human, let me live among the cowherds of Gokul; if an animal, let me graze with Nand's cows; if a stone, let me be that Govardhan hill Krishna lifted on his finger; if a bird, let me nest on the kadamba tree by the Yamuna. In any form, may I never leave Braj.
कवि तीनों लोकों का राज, आठों जादुई शक्तियाँ और नौ खज़ानों का सुख भी ठुकराने को तैयार है। उसे तो बस कृष्ण की लाठी और कंबल चाहिए। नंद की गायें चराने का मौका मिले तो वह आठों शक्तियाँ और नौ खज़ाने छोड़ देगा; ब्रज के जंगल, बाग और तालाब देखकर वह सोने के महल तक न्योछावर कर देगा।
The poet would reject the kingdom of all three worlds, the eight siddhis and nine treasures. He wants only Krishna's staff and blanket. For the chance to graze Nand's cows he would give up all powers and riches; on seeing Braj's groves and ponds he would sacrifice even palaces of gold.
गोपियाँ कृष्ण को खुश करने के लिए मोरपंख का मुकुट और गुंजा के बीजों की माला पहनती हैं और कृष्ण की तरह सज-धजकर ग्वालों के साथ जंगल में गायें चराने को तैयार हैं। वे कृष्ण की सुंदरता और प्यार में पूरी तरह डूबी हुई हैं।
To please Krishna, the gopis wear the peacock-feather crown and garlands of gunja berries and, dressing like him, are ready to graze cows in the forest with the cowherds. They are wholly immersed in Krishna's beauty and love.
जब कृष्ण की मुरली बजती है तो गोपियाँ अपनी सुध-बुध खो बैठती हैं। चाहकर भी वे मुरली की मीठी धुन को अनसुना नहीं कर पातीं; कानों में उँगली डाल लेने पर भी उनकी मुस्कान उनके भीतर के गहरे कृष्ण-प्रेम को ज़ाहिर कर देती है।
When Krishna's flute sounds, the gopis lose all self-control. They cannot ignore its sweet melody even if they try; though they plug their ears, their smile betrays the boundless love for Krishna within them.
