दो बैलों की कथा The Tale of Two Oxen

झूरी किसान के पास हीरा और मोती नाम के दो सुंदर, तगड़े बैल थे। दोनों में गहरी दोस्ती थी और वे बिना बोले एक-दूसरे के मन की बात समझ लेते थे। झूरी उन्हें बहुत प्यार करता था। एक दिन झूरी ने उन्हें अपने साले गया के यहाँ काम के लिए भेज दिया। बैलों को लगा कि झूरी ने उन्हें बेच दिया है, इसलिए वे दुखी हो गए।

Jhoori Kaachhi owned two handsome, sturdy oxen named Heera and Moti. The two shared a deep friendship and understood each other's feelings without speaking. Jhoori loved them dearly. One day Jhoori sent them to his brother-in-law Gaya's house to work. The oxen felt Jhoori had sold them off, and so they grew sad.

गया ने बैलों के साथ सख्ती से पेश आया, सूखा भूसा दिया और मारा-पीटा। रात को दोनों रस्सी तोड़कर झूरी के घर भाग आए। झूरी खुश हुआ, पर गाँव वालों ने उन्हें बेवफ़ा कहा। दूसरे दिन फिर उन्हें गया के यहाँ भेज दिया गया।

Gaya treated the oxen harshly, feeding them dry husk and beating them. At night both broke their ropes and fled back to Jhoori's house. Jhoori was happy, but the villagers called them disloyal. The next day they were sent back to Gaya's place again.

इस बार गया ने उन्हें मोटी रस्सी से बाँध दिया और कम खाना दिया। गया के घर की एक छोटी लड़की उन पर तरस खाकर रोज़ रोटी खिलाती थी। एक रात उसने उनकी रस्सी खोल दी। दोनों भाग निकले, पर रास्ता भटक गए। खेत में मटर खाते समय एक गुस्सैल साँड़ से उनकी भिड़ंत हुई; हीरा-मोती ने मिलकर साँड़ को हरा दिया। फिर भूखे होकर वे एक खेत में घुसे, जहाँ रखवाले ने उन्हें पकड़कर आवारा पशुओं के बाड़े में बंद करवा दिया।

This time Gaya tied them with thick rope and gave little food. A little girl in Gaya's house pitied them and fed them bread daily. One night she untied their ropes. Both escaped but lost their way. While eating peas in a field they met a fierce bull; Heera and Moti together defeated it. Then, hungry, they entered a field where a watchman caught them and had them locked in the cattle-pound (kaanjihaus).

उस बाड़े में कई भूखे जानवर बंद थे। हीरा ने दीवार तोड़ने की कोशिश की। मोती के पास भागने का मौका था, पर वह हीरा को अकेला छोड़कर नहीं गया, दोस्ती उसके लिए आज़ादी से बड़ी थी। हीरा के रस्सी तोड़ने पर उसे मोटी रस्सी से बाँध दिया गया। एक दाढ़ी वाला आदमी बैलों को बोली लगाकर खरीदकर ले जाने लगा।

Many starving animals were locked in the cattle-pound. Heera tried to break the wall. Moti had a chance to flee but did not abandon Heera, friendship mattered more to him than freedom. When Heera broke the rope, he was tied with thicker rope. A bearded man bought the oxen at the auction and began taking them away.

दाढ़ी वाला आदमी बैलों को बेरहमी से हाँक रहा था। बैलों ने ताड़ लिया कि वह कसाई जैसा ज़ालिम है, इसलिए वे उस पर टूट पड़े और भागकर सीधे झूरी के दरवाज़े पर आ पहुँचे। झूरी ने उन्हें गले लगाया। मालकिन ने भी प्यार जताया। कहानी यह सीख देती है कि आज़ादी और दोस्ती बहुत कीमती हैं, और सीधे-सादे जीव भी गलत बात के खिलाफ़ डट जाते हैं।

The bearded man drove the oxen cruelly. The oxen sensed he was as brutal as a butcher, so they charged at him and ran straight back to Jhoori's door. Jhoori embraced them; the mistress too showed affection. The story's message is that freedom and friendship are priceless, and even simple creatures stand firm against injustice.
