बच्चे काम पर जा रहे हैं Bachche Kaam Par Ja Rahe Hain (Children Are Going to Work)

कवि धुंध से ढकी ठंडी सड़क पर देखता है कि छोटे-छोटे बच्चे काम पर जा रहे हैं। यह आम-सी दिखने वाली बात उसे अंदर तक हिला देती है, क्योंकि यह उम्र काम करने की नहीं, खेलने और पढ़ने की है।

On a cold, fog-covered road the poet sees little children going to work. This seemingly ordinary sight shakes him to the core, for this is not an age for work but for play and study.

कवि कहता है कि बच्चों का काम पर जाना एक आम बात की तरह नहीं कहना चाहिए, बल्कि इसे एक डरा देने वाले सवाल की तरह पूछना चाहिए, आखिर इन बच्चों का बचपन कहाँ चला गया, और हम सब इसे चुपचाप क्यों देख रहे हैं?

The poet says that children going to work should not be stated as a casual description, but asked as a terrible question, where has these children's childhood gone, and why are we all silently watching it happen?

कवि पूछता है कि क्या इन बच्चों के खेलने की सारी गेंदें, खिलौने, किताबें, स्कूल, बस्ते और रंग-बिरंगी दुनिया कहीं खो गई या मिट गई है? अगर नहीं, तो फिर ये बच्चे खेलने-पढ़ने के बजाय काम पर क्यों जा रहे हैं?

The poet asks whether all the balls, toys, books, schools, satchels and colourful world meant for these children have somehow been lost or destroyed. If not, then why are these children going to work instead of playing and studying?

कवि के सवाल के पीछे यह दर्द है कि बच्चों की खुशियों भरी दुनिया वैसी की वैसी मौजूद है, फिर भी गरीबी और ज़्यादती के कारण लाखों बच्चे उससे दूर रह जाते हैं। यह समाज और सरकार के बेपरवाह होने का सबूत है, जिसे बदलना हम सबका काम है।

Behind the poet's question lies the pain that the children's joyful world still exists intact, yet poverty and exploitation deprive millions of children of it. This is proof of the heartlessness of society and the system, which it is our collective duty to change.
