About the author
This nazm is by Akhtar Sherani (1905-1948), counted among Urdu's leading Romantic poets and the son of the noted scholar Hafiz Mahmood Sherani. 'Pyara Watan' is a simple, anthem-like nazm in which the poet expresses the beauty of his homeland and his love for it.
Summary
भावार्थ: यह वतन हमें दिल से प्यारा क्यों न हो - यह तो जन्नत का एक टुकड़ा है। हमारा पूरा वतन सुहाना और सुंदर है। यह हमारा वतन है, प्यारा-प्यारा वतन।
Meaning: how could this homeland not be dear to our hearts - it is a piece of paradise. Our whole homeland is pleasant and beautiful. This is our homeland, our beloved, beloved homeland.
भावार्थ: ये हरे-भरे जंगल लहलहा रहे हैं, बाग़ों के नज़ारे महक रहे हैं। हमारा वतन लहकता और महकता है। यह हमारा वतन है, प्यारा-प्यारा वतन।
Meaning: these lush green forests are flourishing, the sights of the gardens are fragrant. Our homeland flourishes and is fragrant. This is our homeland, our beloved, beloved homeland.
भावार्थ: बाग़ों में बहार छाई हुई है, बादलों की घटाएँ कैसा रंग लाई हैं। हमारा पूरा वतन ख़ुशी से भरपूर है। यह हमारा वतन है, प्यारा-प्यारा वतन।
Meaning: spring has spread through the gardens, what colour the clouds have brought. Our whole homeland is brimming with joy. This is our homeland, our beloved, beloved homeland.
भावार्थ: हम वतन की कहानियाँ सुनाते हैं, यही गीत दिन-रात गाते हैं। हम इसी वतन के हैं, यही हमारा वतन है। यह हमारा वतन है, प्यारा-प्यारा वतन।
Meaning: we tell tales of our homeland, we sing this same song day and night. We belong to it, this is our homeland. This is our homeland, our beloved, beloved homeland.
