समवाये ही दुर्लभम् Samavaye hi Durlabham (Rare in combination)

समवाये ही दुर्लभम् का अर्थ, मिलकर रहने से कठिन काम भी हो जाता है। इस कहानी में चिड़िया, कौए, मक्खी और मेंढक मिलकर हाथी को हराते हैं।

Rare in combination means difficult tasks succeed through unity. Here sparrow, woodpecker, fly and frog together defeat an elephant.

पहले एक पेड़ पर चिड़िया रहती थी। समय से बच्चे हुए। एक हाथी ने शाखा तोड़ दी, घोंसला गिरा, अंडे टूट गए। वह रोने लगी।

Once a sparrow lived in a tree and had offspring. A reckless elephant broke a branch; the nest fell and eggs were destroyed. She wept.

काष्ठकूट पक्षी ने पूछा, क्यों रो रही हो? चिड़िया बोली, दुष्ट हाथी ने मेरे बच्चे मार दिए, मैं उसे मारना चाहती हूँ।

Hearing her lament, woodpecker Kashthakuta asked why she wept. The sparrow said a wicked elephant destroyed her brood; she wished to kill it.

काष्ठकूट चिड़िया को मक्खी वीणरवा के पास ले गया। मक्खी ने कहा, मेरा दोस्त मेंढक मेघनाद है। सब ने मेंढक को कहानी सुनाई।

Kashthakuta took the sparrow to fly Veenarava. The fly said her friend frog Meghnad would help. They told him the whole story.

मेघनाद ने योजना बताई, मक्खी कान में भिनभिनाए, कौआ आँखें चुभोए, मेंढक गड्ढे में बैठकर बुलाए, अंधा हाथी गड्ढे में गिरकर मरे।

Meghnad planned: fly buzz in the elephant ear at noon so it shuts eyes; woodpecker peck them blind; frog croak from a pit; blind elephant falls and dies.

ऐसा ही हुआ। मक्खी, कौए और मेंढक ने अपना काम किया, अंधा हाथी गड्ढे में गिरकर मर गया।

So it happened. Fly, woodpecker and frog did their parts, the blind elephant fell into the pit and died.

कहा गया, कमज़ोरों का मिला हुआ समूह भी कठिन से कठिन काम जीत सकता है।

Thus it is said, even a combination of the weak is hard to defeat. The weak united conquer the strong.

चिड़िया अकेले हाथी नहीं मार सकती थी, पर मिलकर सब जीत गए, यही सीख है।

The sparrow alone could not kill the elephant, but united they won, that is the lesson of rare combination.
