हास्यकथिका Hasyakathika (A humorous tale)

चार हास्य कवि मंच पर बैठे हैं। नीचे दर्शक शोर कर रहे हैं। संचालक ने कहा, शोर मत करो, हास्य कवि आए हैं।

Four young poets in varied costumes sat on stage. The audience made noise. The host said, enough noise, comic poets have arrived.

गजाधर ने कहा, वैद्य राजा यमराज के भाई हैं! यमराज प्राण लेता है, वैद्य प्राण और पैसा दोनों। सब हँसे।

Gajadhar said, Doctor-king, brother of Yama! Yama takes life; doctors take life and money. All laughed.

कालान्तक ने कहा, वैद्य हर जगह हैं, पर जनसंख्या कम करने में मेरे जैसे नहीं। श्मशान की आग देख वैद्य हैरान, न मैं, न भाई, किसकी चालाकी?

Kalantak said doctors are everywhere but none match him at reducing population. Seeing a pyre, a doctor wonders whose cleverness it is.

मोटे पेट वाले तुन्दिल ने कहा, बुरी बुद्धि वाले! दूसरों का खाना खाकर शरीर पर दया मत करो। दूसरों का खाना दुर्लभ है, शरीर बार-बार मिलते हैं।

Tundil the pot-bellied poet said, O fool! Eating others food, show no pity to your body. Others food is rare; bodies come again and again.

धुन्ध ने कहा, वैज्ञानिक आठ ग्रह मानते हैं, मैं दस। दसवाँ ग्रह दामाद है, टेढ़ा, क्रूर, धन छीनने वाला!

Dhundh said scientists count eight planets; he counts ten. The tenth is the son-in-law, always crooked, cruel, seizing wealth.

एक बच्चे ने कहा, यमराज गजाधर को, खाने के लालची तुन्दिल को, दसवें ग्रह धुन्ध को, कालान्तक को नमस्कार! सब हँसे और बाहर चले गए।

A boy recited salutations to Gajadhar as Yama, greedy Tundil, planet Dhundh and Kalantak, all laughed and left.

एक कहानी में बंदर ने राजा की नाक काट दी, मूर्खों से दोस्ती नहीं करनी चाहिए।

In the sub-story a monkey cut the king nose while swatting a fly, friendship with fools is unwise.
