स्वावलम्बनम् Swavlambanam (Self-reliance)

कृष्णमूर्ति और श्रीकण्ठ दो मित्र थे। श्रीकण्ठ का घर बड़ा और धनी; कृष्णमूर्ति का घर सादा पर सुन्दर।

Krishna Murti and Shrikant were friends. Shrikant father was wealthy with a grand house; Krishna Murti parents were farmers with a simple beautiful home.

एक बार श्रीकण्ठ कृष्णमूर्ति के घर गया। उसके माता-पिता ने बिना नौकर के अच्छी मेहमाननवाज़ी की।

Shrikant visited Krishna Murti home. The family hosted him by their own effort, no servants at all.

श्रीकण्ठ ने पूछा, तुम्हारे घर कोई नौकर नहीं? कृष्णमूर्ति ने कहा, मेरे आठ नौकर हैं: दो पैर, दो हाथ, दो आँखें, दो कान। तुम अपने नौकरों के अधीन हो।

Shrikant asked about servants. Krishna Murti said he has eight, two feet, hands, eyes and ears always under his control. You depend on servants.

कृष्णमूर्ति ने कहा, स्वावलम्बन में हमेशा सुख है। नौकर न हो तो तुम कष्ट पाते हो।

In self-reliance there is always comfort, never pain. When servants are absent you suffer.

श्रीकण्ठ ने कहा, मैं महीने और ऋतु नहीं जानता। कृष्णमूर्ति ने बारह महीने, छह ऋतु और फरवरी के दिन बताए।

Shrikant did not know months or seasons. Krishna Murti named all twelve months, six seasons, and February days.

श्रीकण्ठ प्रसन्न हुआ और कहा, अब मैं भी अपना काम खुद करूँगा। उसने स्वावलम्बन का महत्त्व समझा।

Delighted, Shrikant vowed to do his own work, he had learned the value of self-reliance.
