ایک پہاڑ اور گلہری Ek Pahaar aur Gilhari (A Mountain and a Squirrel)

भावार्थ: एक पहाड़ एक गिलहरी से कहता था - तू तो बहुत छोटी सी चीज़ है, फिर भी तुझे इतना घमंड! ख़ुदा की मर्ज़ी है कि छोटी-छोटी नाचीज़ चीज़ें भी अपने आप को बड़ी चीज़ समझने लगें! मेरी शान के आगे तेरी हैसियत ही क्या है? जो बड़ाई मुझमें है, वह तुझे कहाँ नसीब है!

Meaning: a mountain was saying to a squirrel - you are such a tiny thing, yet you carry such pride! It is God's way that even worthless little things start thinking of themselves as important! What is your worth before my grandeur? The greatness that is in me - how could you ever have that!

भावार्थ: यह सुनकर गिलहरी ने कहा - ज़रा अपनी बात सँभालकर बोलो। मुझे शर्म आनी चाहिए, या तुम्हें पानी में डूब मरना चाहिए (ऐसी बातें करने पर)? यह कैसी अक़्ल और समझ है, यह कैसा शऊर (तमीज़) है! जो बेशऊर हों वही यूँ बातमीज़ (बदतमीज़) बन बैठते हैं! क्या ज़मीन मेरी शान-ओ-शौकत के आगे पस्त (छोटी) है?

Meaning: hearing this the squirrel said - mind your words a little. Should I feel ashamed, or should you go and drown yourself in shame for saying such a thing? What kind of wisdom and understanding is this, what kind of sense! Only those without sense behave so rudely! Is the whole earth really so low before your grandeur?

भावार्थ: कहाँ तो एक बड़ा पहाड़, और कहाँ एक ग़रीब (छोटा-सा, बेचारा) जानवर! ये सच्ची बातें हैं, इन्हें दिल से निकाल दो (यानी इन पर ग़ौर करो, इन्हें भुलाओ मत) - आख़िर तुम भी तो मेरी तरह छोटे नहीं हो (यानी तुम भी किसी बड़ी चीज़ के आगे छोटे ही लगते हो)।

Meaning: after all, where is a great mountain and where is a poor little creature! These are true words, take them to heart - for in the end, are you not small too, just like me, before something even greater?

भावार्थ: हर चीज़ से ख़ुदा की क़ुदरत (ताक़त) ज़ाहिर होती है। उसी ने तुझे इस जहान में बड़ा बना दिया है। मगर तुझमें एक क़दम उठाने की भी ताक़त नहीं है। अगर तू इतना ही बड़ा है, तो मेरी तरह उछल-कूद करके दिखा तो सही!

Meaning: God's power is revealed through every single thing - it is He who made you great in this world. And yet you do not have the strength to take even one step. If you are truly so great, then show me you can leap and move about as nimbly as I can!

भावार्थ: कोई बड़ा है, कोई छोटा - यह उस ख़ुदा की हिकमत (समझदारी) है। उसी ने मुझे दरख़्त पर चढ़ना सिखाया है। तुझमें ज़रा भी कोई बुराई है या ख़ूबी, और क्या है? यह छलाँग लगाकर तो दिखा मुझको! दुनिया में कोई चीज़ बेकार (निकम्मी) नहीं है - ख़ुदा की क़ुदरत के इस कारख़ाने में कोई भी चीज़ बुरी नहीं होती।

Meaning: that some are big and some are small - this too is God's wisdom. It is He who taught me to climb trees. What real flaw or merit do you even have? Just try leaping the way I do! Nothing in this world is useless - in this great workshop of God's creation, nothing is ever bad.
