कर चले हम फ़िदा Kar Chale Hum Fida (We Go, Having Given Our Lives)

शहीद होते सैनिक कहते हैं कि हम अपनी जान देश पर कुर्बान करके जा रहे हैं, अब देश की रक्षा तुम्हारे हाथ में है। लड़ाई में साँस रुकती गई और नब्ज़ जमती गई, फिर भी हम पीछे नहीं हटे। सिर कट जाने का भी दुख नहीं, क्योंकि हमने हिमालय का सिर (देश की इज़्ज़त) झुकने नहीं दिया, मरते-मरते भी हमारी आन-बान बनी रही।

The dying soldiers say they go having given their bodies and minds for the country, and the duty of defending the nation now rests with the comrades. In battle the breath stopped and the pulse froze, yet they did not step back. They do not even grieve losing their heads, for they did not let the head of the Himalaya (the country's honour) bow; their valour stayed intact to the very last.

सैनिक कहते हैं कि देश के लिए जान देने का यह मौका बार-बार नहीं मिलता, ज़िंदगी में ऐसे पल कम ही आते हैं। आज हमारे बलिदान से धरती दुलहन की तरह सज गई है। कवि देश की मिट्टी को लाल रंग में सजी दुलहन की तरह बताते हैं, जैसे सैनिकों के खून से उसका शृंगार हुआ हो।

The soldiers say the chance to give one's life for the country does not come again and again; such moments come rarely in a life. Today, by their sacrifice, the earth has been adorned like a bride. The poet gives the soil of the country the image of a bride decked in red, as if her adornment were made with the soldiers' blood.

सैनिक कहते हैं कि इस समय ज़िंदगी मौत से गले मिल रही है, यानी बलिदान का पल आ गया है। इसलिए तुम भी अपने सर पर कफ़न बाँध लो, मतलब मरने के लिए तैयार रहो। इस त्याग और कुर्बानी के काफ़िले को रुकने मत देना, उसे आगे बढ़ाते रहना।

The soldiers say that at this hour life is embracing death, that is, the moment of sacrifice has arrived. So you too bind the shroud on your head, meaning stay ready to die. Do not let this caravan of sacrifice and renunciation stop; keep carrying it forward.

कवि रामायण का चित्र देते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि अगर कोई दुश्मन (रावण जैसा) देश रूपी सीता के दामन (इज़्ज़त) की ओर हाथ बढ़ाए, तो तुम्हें राम और लक्ष्मण बनकर उसकी रक्षा करनी है। तुम्हें सुरक्षा की लक्ष्मण-रेखा खींचनी है, ताकि देश का मान सुरक्षित रहे। यह कवि का बनाया चित्र है, जिसे आदर के साथ बताया गया है।

The poet gives an image from the Ramayan. He says that if any enemy (like Ravan) reaches a hand toward the hem of Sita, who stands for the country's honour, you must become Ram and Lakshman and protect her.
