साखी (कबीर) Saakhi (Couplets of Kabir)

कबीर कहते हैं कि ऐसा बोलो जिसमें घमंड न हो। ऐसी मीठी और नम्र बात से अपना मन भी शांत रहता है और सुनने वालों को भी अच्छा लगता है, उन्हें सुख मिलता है।

Kabir says, speak in such a way that your ego (the 'I' of the mind) is dissolved. Such sweet and humble speech keeps your own body and mind cool, and it brings happiness to others who hear it.

कबीर कहते हैं कि कस्तूरी हिरण की अपनी नाभि में होती है, पर हिरण उसे जंगल में ढूँढता रहता है। ऐसे ही भगवान (राम) हर इंसान के मन के अंदर रहते हैं, पर अनजान लोग उन्हें बाहर ढूँढते हैं और अपने अंदर नहीं देख पाते।

Kabir says, musk lies within the deer's own navel, yet the deer wanders the forest searching for it. In the same way Ram (God) dwells within every heart, yet the unknowing world searches outside and fails to look within.

कबीर कहते हैं कि जब तक मुझमें 'मैं' (घमंड) था, तब तक भगवान नहीं मिले; और जब भगवान मिल गए तो 'मैं' मिट गया। घमंड और भगवान दोनों एक साथ नहीं रह सकते। जैसे अंदर ज्ञान का दीपक जलते ही सारा अँधेरा (अज्ञान) मिट गया।

Kabir says, as long as the 'I' (ego) was in me, Hari (the Lord) was not found; now that Hari is found, the 'I' is no more. Ego and the Lord cannot exist together. Just as, the moment the lamp (of knowledge) was seen within, all the darkness (of ignorance) vanished.

कबीर कहते हैं कि सारा संसार सुखी है, क्योंकि लोग खाते हैं और सोते हैं, दुनिया के सुखों में मगन रहते हैं। पर भक्त कबीर दुखी है, क्योंकि वह भगवान से दूर होने के कारण जागता है और रोता है, उसे भगवान से मिलने की तड़प है।

Kabir says, the whole world is happy because it eats and sleeps, lost in worldly pleasures. But the servant Kabir is sorrowful, for he stays awake and weeps in separation from the Lord, aching to be united with God.

कबीर कहते हैं कि भगवान से बिछड़ने का दुख (विरह) शरीर में साँप की तरह बैठ गया है, जिस पर कोई मंत्र काम नहीं करता। भगवान से दूर हुआ भक्त जी नहीं पाता, और अगर जीता भी है तो पागल जैसा हो जाता है।

Kabir says, the viraha (pang of separation) from the Lord dwells in the body like a serpent, on which no charm or mantra works. One parted from Ram cannot stay alive, and if he does live, he becomes mad.

कबीर कहते हैं कि अपनी निंदा करने वाले को अपने पास, आँगन में ही कुटिया बनाकर रखना चाहिए। क्योंकि वह बिना साबुन और बिना पानी के ही, हमारी कमियाँ बताकर हमारे स्वभाव को साफ़ और अच्छा बना देता है।

Kabir says, keep the one who criticises you near, build him a hut right in your courtyard. For without soap and without water, by pointing out our faults, he cleanses and purifies our very nature.

कबीर कहते हैं कि बड़ी-बड़ी किताबें पढ़ते-पढ़ते सारी दुनिया मर गई, पर कोई सच्चा ज्ञानी नहीं बन पाया। जो भगवान के प्रेम का सिर्फ़ एक अक्षर पढ़ ले, असली ज्ञानी वही है।

Kabir says, reading book after book the whole world has died, yet none became a true scholar. The one who reads even a single letter of the Beloved's (the Lord's) love, he alone is the true scholar.

कबीर कहते हैं कि मैंने ज्ञान की जलती लकड़ी (मशाल) हाथ में लेकर अपने मोह-माया के घर को जला दिया है। अब मैं उसी का घर जलाऊँगा (मोह से छुड़ाऊँगा) जो मेरे साथ इस भक्ति के रास्ते पर चलेगा।

Kabir says, taking the torch (burning brand) of knowledge in my hand, I have burned down my own house of attachment. Now I will burn the house of (free from attachment) only the one who walks with me on this path of devotion.
