यह दंतुरित मुसकान; फसल Yeh Danturit Muskan; Fasal (This Toothy Smile; The Crop)

कवि बच्चे से कहते हैं कि तुम्हारी यह नए दाँतों वाली मुसकान इतनी असरदार है कि यह मरे हुए (निराश, बेजान) इंसान में भी जान डाल सकती है। यह प्यारी मुसकान देखकर तो कठोर पत्थर भी पिघलकर पानी बन जाए।

The poet tells the infant that this smile, with its newly grown teeth, is so powerful that it can put life even into one who is dead (lifeless, despairing). On seeing this innocent smile, even a hard stone would melt into water.

कवि कहते हैं कि तुम्हारे धूल से सने कोमल अंग ऐसे लगते हैं जैसे कमल के फूल तालाब को छोड़कर मेरी झोंपड़ी में आकर खिल गए हों। तुम्हें छूते ही पत्थर जैसा कठोर मन पिघल गया है।

The poet says your dust-covered (dhooli-dhoosar) tender limbs seem as if lotus flowers had left the pond and bloomed in my hut. Merely by your touch a heart as hard as stone has melted.

बच्चा कवि को पहचानता नहीं, क्योंकि कवि बहुत दिनों बाद घर लौटे हैं और बच्चे ने उन्हें पहली बार देखा है। फिर भी माँ की आँखों के सहारे बच्चा कवि को टकटकी लगाकर देखता है। बच्चे ने तिरछी नज़र से देखा तो कवि को लगा जैसे शेफालिका के फूल झड़ पड़े हों।

The child does not recognise the poet, because the poet has come home after a long time and the child is seeing him for the first time. Yet, with the help of the mother's eyes, the child gazes intently at the poet. When the child glanced sideways, the poet felt as if shefalika flowers had showered down.

कवि सवाल उठाते हैं कि फसल क्या है और यह कैसे बनती है। फसल एक-दो नदियों के पानी से नहीं बनती, बल्कि बहुत सी नदियों के पानी के जादू से बनती है।

The poet raises the question of what a crop is and how it comes to be. A crop is not the result of the water of one or two rivers, but of the magic of the water of many rivers.

कवि कहते हैं कि फसल लाखों-करोड़ों हाथों की मेहनत से बनती है, यानी अनगिनत लोगों के परिश्रम का मिला-जुला गौरव है। इंसान की मेहनत के बिना फसल नहीं उगती।

The poet says the crop is the dignity of the touch of millions upon millions of hands, that is, the combined glory of the labour of countless people. Without human toil a crop does not grow.

कवि कहते हैं कि फसल हज़ारों खेतों की मिट्टी के गुणों से बनती है, और उसमें सूरज की किरणों की गरमी और हवा की थिरकन भी समाई हुई है। इस तरह फसल पानी, मेहनत, मिट्टी, सूरज और हवा, सबसे मिलकर बनती है।

The poet says the crop is made from the qualities of the soil of thousands of fields, and within it are also gathered the warmth of the sun's rays and the dancing motion of the wind. Thus the crop is the combined form of water, labour, soil, sun and wind together.
