Summary
গল্পকর্তা এক পুরনো ঘড়ির দোকানে যান। দোকানদার বলেন, এই ঘড়িগুলোর দাম টাকায় নয় - সময়ের দাম। প্রতিটি ঘড়িতে কারো জীবনের কথা জড়িত।
The narrator visits an old watch shop; the seller says watches are priced in time and memory.
এক পুরনো ঘড়ি দেখা যায় - মালিকের আর্থিক কষ্টে বিক্রি করতে হচ্ছে। ক্রেতা খুব কম দাম দিয়ে ঘড়ি কিনে নেয়; বিক্রেতা দর কষাকষি করতে পারে না।
A poor seller must part with his watch for very little; the buyer takes advantage.
ক্রেতা পরে জানতে পারে ঘড়িটি বিক্রেতার কাছে অনেক মূল্যবান ছিল - স্মৃতি, সম্মান, সৎ জীবনের প্রতীক। সে বুঝতে পারে সে অন্যায় দাম দিয়েছে।
The buyer learns the watch meant more than money; guilt awakens.
গল্পকর্তা বা ক্রেতা সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় - সত্যিকারের দাম হল সৎ হওয়া। টাকা দিয়ে সব কেনা যায় না; মানুষের বিবেকই আসল দাম নির্ধারণ করে।
True price is honesty of conscience, not the lowest bargain.
লেখক দেখান - জীবনে প্রতিটি লেনদেনে ‘দাম’ শুধু টাকা নয়; মানুষের মর্যাদা ও সততাও দামে ধরা পড়ে।
