কলকাতা থেকে গ্রামে পোস্টমাস্টার আসেন - অচেনা, একাকী।
City youth posted to village.
রতন ছোট মেয়ে - ঘরের কাজ করে; পোস্টমাস্টারের সঙ্গে ঘেঁটে।
Orphan girl Ratan tends the house.
রতন তাকে ভালোবাসে - মা-ভাব; পোস্টমাস্টার শেখান, কথা বলেন।
She loves him like a mother figure reversed.
পোস্টমাস্টার অসুখে রতনের কাছে ‘মা’ বলে - মুহূর্তের স্নেহ।
Ill, he calls her Ma once.
চাকরি বদল; পোস্টমাস্টার যান; রতন কাঁদে - টাকা নেয় না।
