સંધિ - two sounds joining into one
વિદ્યા + આલય = વિદ્યાલય ·vidyā + ālaya = vidyālaya ·knowledge + abode = school (ā+ā fuse → ā)
સૂર્ય + ઉદય = સૂર્યોદય ·sūrya + udaya = sūryodaya ·sun + rising = sunrise (a+u → o, guṇa rule)
English bridge: ‘a apple’ becomes ‘an apple’ - a sound is added at the boundary to make speech smooth. Gujarati સંધિ does the same but by merging sounds. Both languages smooth the boundary between words.
