Summary
A tissue is a group of similar cells that work together to perform a particular function.
In multicellular organisms, one cell cannot do every job alone. Cells become specialised, so work is divided and the body functions smoothly.
Meristematic tissue helps plants grow. Permanent tissues perform jobs like storage, support, protection and transport. Xylem carries water and minerals, while phloem carries prepared food.
Epithelial tissue covers and protects. Connective tissue joins and supports. Muscular tissue contracts for movement. Nervous tissue carries messages.
Thin flat epithelial cells are good for lining surfaces. Long muscle cells are good for contraction. A neuron has branches so it can receive and send impulses.
Do not only write a tissue name. Add a function and example: xylem transports water and minerals from roots to other plant parts.
