ਸਾਡੇ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਰੀਤੀ-ਰਿਵਾਜ Our Customs and Festivals

ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ।

The biggest festival for my family is Vaisakhi. It is celebrated every April as the day the Khalsa was founded. We go to the gurdwara, take part in nagar kirtan, and eat langar.

ਦੀਵਾਲੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ।

Diwali is the festival of lights, celebrated in October or November. For Sikhs it is also connected to the release of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. We decorate the house with lamps and lights and distribute sweets.

ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਦਿਨ ਹਨ।

Gurpurabs are celebrated in memory of the birthdays or special days of the Gurus. There is an akhand path at the gurdwara and the sangat gathers. I really enjoy doing seva in the langar on Gurpurab.

ਜਨਮਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਖੀਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

Besides festivals, our family has small traditions, like eating grandmother’s handmade kheer on birthdays. These small traditions keep our family bound together.

ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਸਾਡੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।

In my opinion, festivals are not just holidays, they keep us connected to our identity and history. Seeing different communities’ festivals, I have understood that diversity makes our society beautiful.
