Summary
Right at the start the poetess says that to welcome spring, colours have been scattered in every direction. Nature, once parched and barren, now arrives bearing a beautiful gift for spring, she writes. These opening lines highlight the contrast between the bareness before spring and the blossoming that follows.
The poetess describes how the neem tree, clad in dense parrot-green leaves, sways coquettishly, dressed up to welcome spring. Alongside it, the prickly pear cactus adorns itself with deep red blossoms like earrings. Through these lines the poetess shows the fresh vigour and beauty that spring's arrival brings to trees and creepers alike.
The poetess goes on to say that the banyan tree, its every branch decked with tender, lush leaves, sways joyfully. Lantana too stands dressed up in a two-toned veil. The peepal's leaves rustle, soft as peacock feathers, while the sambhar tree, laden with red buds, stands ready to welcome spring along the roadside path.
In the final part of the poem the poetess says that the palas (flame-of-the-forest) flowers have blossomed on the lap of the earth, and seeing their beauty, every other flower in the world secretly pines with envy. From the mango tree's blossoms comes the koel's sweet, melodious call. And finally, even the wasteland that was once bare and desolate begins joyfully singing the song of spring, with which the poetess completes her beautiful picture of nature's transformation.
