Summary
One linear equation in x and y has many solutions. A pair asks for values of x and y that satisfy both equations at the same time.
Intersecting lines give one solution. Coincident lines give infinitely many solutions. Parallel distinct lines give no solution.
For a1x + b1y + c1 = 0 and a2x + b2y + c2 = 0, compare a1/a2, b1/b2 and c1/c2 to predict the graph and number of solutions.
Make one variable the subject from one equation, substitute it in the other equation, solve one variable, then find the other.
Multiply equations if needed so one variable has equal or opposite coefficients. Add or subtract to remove that variable.
