એક તપતી બપોરે ખેતર ને ગામનો સૂનકાર છવાયેલો છે.

The poem opens with a village scene at a scorching summer noon. The field, the field-edge, the silence and a village steeped in heat - with these the poet builds the atmosphere. The hush of the afternoon itself lays the ground for the feeling of separation to come.

ખેતરના શેઢેથી સારસી ઊડી ગઈ - જાણે કોઈ પ્રિયજનની વિદાય.

Kavyanu kendriya chitra - shedheh thi udi gayeli sarasi. Enu udi javu jane priyajanni viday suchve chhe.

The central image is the saras crane that has flown away from the edge of the field. Its flight seems to suggest the departure of a loved one. With the bird gone, both the field and the poet's heart fall empty - the refrain repeatedly deepens this feeling.

પંખી ગયા પછી કવિના મનમાં એકલતા ને ઝૂરાપો ઘૂંટાય છે.

Sarasi udi gaya pachhi kavina manma undi eklata ane zurapo janme chhe. Kavi potani vedanane prakritina chitra sathe bhelvi de chhe.

After the crane flies away, deep loneliness and yearning are born in the poet's heart. The scorching noon, the empty field and the solitary mind together sharpen the pain of separation. The poet blends his own anguish into the picture of nature.

ખેતર, રોટલા, ઢોલકી જેવાં ગામનાં પ્રતીકો વતનનો સ્પર્શ આપે છે.

Kavi khetar, shedho, rotla, dholki, agni jevan gramjivannan pratiko vapre chhe. Aa pratiko dwara vatanno sparsh ane matini sodam kavyama bhale chhe.

The poet uses homely images of village life - the field, the field-edge, bread, a small drum, fire. Through these the touch of the homeland and the scent of the soil enter the poem. Ordinary rural pictures, in his hands, become carriers of deep feeling - this is Ravji Patel's distinction.

કાવ્યનો સૂર મધુર છતાં વિષાદભર્યો - વતન ને એકલતાનું ગાન.

Kavyano sur madhur chhata vishadbharyo chhe. Dhruvpanktini punaravritti virah-bhavne ghunte chhe. Aa rachna vatan, prakriti ane eklatanu gaan bani rahe chhe.

The whole poem sounds sweet yet sorrowful. The repeated refrain deepens the mood of separation. This work of a poet who died young becomes a subtle, feeling-filled song of homeland, nature and loneliness. A single small event, in his hands, becomes a symbol of a deep emotion of life.
